Why web performance matters: Core Web Vitals 101
Page speed is a direct driver of conversion. A practical primer on Core Web Vitals.
Since 2021 Google has been using Core Web Vitals as a ranking factor. Three metrics:
- LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) — Time for the main content to render. Under 2.5s is good.
- INP (Interaction to Next Paint) — Time to visible feedback after an interaction. Under 200 ms is good.
- CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) — How much elements move during load. Under 0.1 is good.
Why it matters
Amazon's classic stat: every 100 ms of delay = 1% drop in sales. 53% of mobile visitors abandon sites that take more than 3 seconds to load.
Our approach
We target Lighthouse 95+ on every project:
- Images converted to AVIF/WebP.
- Self-hosted fonts with
font-display: swap. - Route-based JS bundle splitting.
- RSC: server-render most of the tree, send only interactive parts to the wire.
Result: average LCP under 1.5s, CLS = 0.
